Shirley Temple and Newport Beach
Today Shirley Temple died at the age of 85. The child star has a long history with Newport Beach. Here are some of the highlights.
Her parents, George and Gertrude Temple rented a summer home on Opal Street on Balboa Island in the 1930s. The photo below shows Shirley Temple with her family on Balboa Island.
To this day if you take a harbor tour in Newport Beach her cottage-style home on the peninsula is still pointed out.
Shirley Temple cut the ribbon at the dedication ceremony for Newport Harbor in 1936.
At 13 Shirley Temple was the first Miss Newport Beach.
