Named the United States’ best beach by Time Magazine, Huntington State Beach is only seven blocks away from Beachwalk. Slap on some suntan lotion and catch some rays, take a dip in the ocean, or sit on the dock to catch some local fish, which can be grilled in one of the 200 fire rings! If you have a surfboard, you’ll want to hit the Huntington State Beach waves—the city’s nickname is ‘Surf City USA’ after all! If you’re in the mood for biking, pack a picnic lunch and head down to Newport Beach on the Huntington Beach Bike Trail, where you’ll witness stunning beach views the entire trip. Have a dog? Venture over to the Huntington Dog Beach, a 1.5-mile stretch of beach where your dog can splash in the water and play in the sand for hours on end. If you’re looking to stay away from the traffic-heavy beach area, Worthy Park is just a short walk away from Beachwalk. There you’ll find a softball field, basketball court, pickleball court, soccer field, picnic tables and children’s playgrounds.

For all of your shopping needs, Seacliff Village Shopping Center is located just east of the neighborhood. Do your grocery shopping at Albertsons, pick up office supplies at Staples or buy your dog’s food at PetSmart. Casual-dining chains are located in the shopping center as well, such as Chipotle and Starbucks.

The public schools assigned to the Beachwalk neighborhood, Agnes L. Smith Elementary School, Ethel Dwyer Middle School and Huntington Beach High School, are far and well above average.

Smith Elementary School received a nine out of ten on the API ratings scale, and math and English proficiency scores are well above state average. Also receiving a nine out of ten on the API scale is Ethel Dwyer Middle School. Similar to Smith, the students test far above average. The middle school also offers several choices of clubs, including drama, music, marine biology, photography, running and yearbook. Ethel Dwyer Middle School is also a part of the Junior National Honors Society. Plenty of after-school sports are available at Ethel Dwyer as well: basketball, volleyball, soccer cross country, track and field and surfing.

Huntington Beach High School received a 9 out of 10 score on the API rating system and is a California Distinguished School, the highest honor a California school can receive. Students rank far higher than the state average in English and math proficiency. The high school has a 99% graduation rate, far above the state average of 81%. Of that number, 67% are eligible to attend a university in the CSU or CU system. The school is also the host campus for the audition-only magnet art’s program, the Academy for the Performing Arts school (APA). Available programs to study at APA consist of acting, costume design, dance, dramatic production, MMET Media, MMET Popular Music, musical theatre, orchestra and technical theatre. A variety of athletics are offered at Huntington Beach High School, including volleyball, tennis, golf, football, field hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball, swimming, softball, track and surfing—in fact, Huntington Beach High was the first school to ever have a varsity surf team.

Pros and Cons of Living in Beachwalk

The location of the Beachwalk neighborhood is excellent. With Main Street, Pacific City and the beach just blocks away, you can conveniently access all, but can still stay away from the tourist crowds. There are plenty of excellent amenities within the community as well, such as pools, spas, saunas and volleyball courts. The home prices in Beachwalk are right in the middle of other similarly styled homes, but also are far below the Huntington Beach average. While the entire community is gated, there is no entry gate, so if you’re looking for a closed community, Beachwalk may not be the choice for you.
